Jason Collins, NBA Player, Comes Out The Closet

Jason Collins announced to the world that he is gay.  I personally do not feel it is a big deal. It is the year 2013, and although there are still some backward people, I would say civilization is very elevated and modern, a majority.  A lot of people around the world from all walks of life are gay and I think that is okay.  I think what is important is the content of a person’s character and many people say Jason is a good human being, and that is what counts.  This is coming from a straight heterosexual male like me.  I am willing to bet there are more gay players but they are scared to admit it.  I think the gay issue has been beating a dead horse and it has been covered beyond recognition.

Lil Wayne & Young Money vs Hip Hop Heads

Chuck D on Lil Wayne

“That means that your Play school, Lil Wayne lollipop days are over.”

Chuck D, is an old school OG and laid the foundation for Hip Hop, and he refers to Lil Wayne as play school stuff, and not for men.  He made that quote to Fresno State.  Chuck is very vocal in representation and from most of his statements I have been able to ascertain, he is not agreeable to how some hip hop artists represent.  He feels the image Hip Hop is currently selling by some of the artists is leading and motivating the youth astray.  My guess is he feels Lil Wayne falls into that category.  Chuck D sums up what a lot of hip hop heads write when they are chatting about Hip Hop.  Chuck D’s main message is to raise appreciation for art after a certain level of age.

In a lot of Hip Hop discussions I have observed, Lil Wayne and Young Money are consistently called the death of Hip Hop.  Is it hater talk?  Honest criticism?  Just subjective dislike of Lil Wayne and the music he puts out?  Let’s get down to the nitty gritty and drop the conversations and regarding this issue of the holy grail of Hip Hop, and whether you feel he is a dishonor or not, to Hip Hop, in regards to his music.

Now let us get to some of Lil Wayne’s music…

Let’s be objective…

Do you like the song?

What do you like or dislike about the songs and the music?

Gangis Khan aka Camoflauge – Younger Heads

Gangis Khan aka Camoflauge, if you did not know, is an emcee and hip hop artist from Scarborough, Toronto, Ontario.  He is an independent musician, putting out records under the moniker of Deepwaters.  The Deepwaters movement also includes clothing which has some pretty cool graf on it.  I have it photographed below.

The above is his newest song, which I believe is going to be on his newest mixtape and street album, “Ninja Music”.  The song is called “Younger Heads”.  “Ninja Music” is stated on his twitter to be out this week or early next week.

Old School Throwback: Stezo – Freak The Funk

Stezo is an old school hip hop dancer, emcee, and producer.  He is from New Haven, Connecticut.  He first started in hip hop as a dancer, being featured in EPMD’s “You Gots To Chill”. From that point on, he began his solo hip hop career, handling a majority of the production and rapping.  He is known for his funky production.  He started in 1989 with the solo album “Crazy Noise”.  He released “Where’s The Funk” in 1997 and then came back again in 2005 with “CT, The Lost State”.

If you know how to holla at Stezo, see if he can give us a shoutout at GuapoVida =)

Mayer Hawthorne – Designer Drug

Upon my treks through the internet universe, I came into contact with the music of Mayer Hawthorne, who is part of Stones Throw Records.  One thing very noticeable about Mayer, is his retro soul style in his music.  It feels like we are venturing into the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s.  Mayer is a a musician in all aspects of music it seems, from the production, the songwriting, the instrumentation, the deejay, the rapper, the singer, and a whole lot more, but we will leave it at that.  I would say that it is great music to drive to and cruise in your car to.

His newest song, “Designer Drug”, is available for free download and you can check out a new favorite of mine in the video provided by Mayer above.
