Maya Angelou is a well known and prominent lyrical figure and HNIC of poetry. Hip Hop, in one of it’s elements is emceeing, a form of poetic prosing over high energy beats. It is a natural order to combine the two and bring a treat for all, in a new concept album surrounding Maya Angelou.
The album is produced by Shawn Riviera with Roccstar and is built around the words of “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” by Angelou. The album is titled “Caged Bird Songs” and the producer is well known in circles as a background worker in music, writing and producing hits for stars while laying back in the cut. Released by Smooch Music on November 4th of 2014, loaded with 13 tracks allegedly, will be banging it out for all to hear.
Angelous loved the idea, according to her son, Colin. She laughed, smiled and loved the music from the album and is happy with hip hop taking and sampling her work to connect with the masses. Be on the lookout for that!
